Setting up a signal
Most signals follow the same structure. You choose a data source, configure the Targeting step, and decide whether Ava qualifies leads before contacting them. Website visitor de-anonymization and Custom AI signal work differently.Choosing a data source
The first screen asks where Ava should look. The question at the top names what the signal needs, so Funding announcement asks which companies Ava should track for funding announcements, Champion tracking asks for a list of champions, and Social keyword tracking asks whose posts Ava should track. Your options depend on the signal:- Search from Artisan’s database tracks companies or people from Artisan’s B2B database. It’s available on Funding announcement, Recently hired, First hire in department, First hire in role, Tech stack in job description, Actively hiring for role, Investor portfolio tracking, Social keyword tracking, and Topic intent.
- Import from CRM imports a list from your CRM.
- Choose existing lists uses a list you already created in Artisan.
- Upload a CSV uploads your own list.
- Import from webhook imports a list by posting data to a webhook URL Artisan provides. It’s only available on Reach a CRM segment.
Configuring the Targeting step
Most signals show three sections on the Targeting step: what Ava tracks, which companies to include, and who Ava contacts. The exact wording of each heading changes depending on the signal you chose, but the settings work the same way. Four signals vary from that shape. Reach a CRM segment shows only the people from the list you selected, with no event or company filtering. Champion tracking has no section for who Ava contacts, because Ava contacts the champion herself. Top customers’ investors adds a section showing the investors behind the customers you selected. Investor portfolio tracking replaces the first section with the investors whose portfolios Ava tracks. Most fields are optional, but a few signals require one before you can launch. Champion tracking requires both Which new company should Ava track? and Which new role should Ava track?. Investor portfolio tracking requires Investors to track, First hire in department requires Departments to include, and First hire in role requires Job title.Choosing what Ava tracks
The first section defines the event Ava watches for. Its fields depend on the signal you selected. Each signal also has a How far back should Ava look? setting, which determines how recent the event must be. Advanced options let you refine what Ava tracks, for example, by excluding certain titles or locations. Social keyword tracking takes the keywords Ava watches for in Keywords to track. Topic intent uses the topics in Topics to monitor, and Show suggested topics offers topics Artisan suggests for your product.Choosing which companies to include
The second section limits Ava’s search to companies that fit your market. You can filter by company size, industries to include, and whether the company is B2B. The Advanced options let you add company locations to include and industries to exclude.Choosing who Ava contacts
The third section determines which people Ava contacts at each company. Its options depend on the signal. For Funding announcement, Tech stack in job description, Actively hiring for role, Top customers’ investors, Investor portfolio tracking, Social keyword tracking, and Topic intent, choose whether Ava targets people by Specific job title or Department & seniority. Under Advanced, you can exclude job titles, departments, or locations. You can also import job titles from a CSV instead of selecting them one by one. For Recently hired, First hire in department, and First hire in role, you choose who Ava contacts at the company the signal matched. Lead identified by the signal contacts the person the signal matched, while Other people at the lead’s company applies your targeting filters to find other people there.Qualifying leads before contact
Every signal ends with Qualify leads with AI before contacting them. When you turn it on, Ava researches each prospect to verify they meet your qualification criteria and skips the ones who don’t. Your criteria can reference the signal itself, such as its topic or sentiment. Each check costs 2 credits. To set up one of these signals:- On the Signals page, select the signal you want to use.

Custom AI signal

Website visitor de-anonymization
Website visitor de-anonymization works differently from the other signals. It runs on your own site traffic, so instead of picking companies for Ava to watch, you choose a connected website and set which visitors Ava targets. Before you set up this signal, connect your website in the Website visitors tab. Ava can only target visitors from a connected website. Learn more about website visitors.
