# Signals

> Monitor company events so Ava can reach out during the window when they're most likely to buy.

A signal monitors for a specific event at a company and alerts Ava when it occurs, so she can reach out at that moment. The event might be a new funding round, a leader joining, or a prospect posting about a problem you solve.

Right after one of these events, the company is more likely to buy, but not for long. Signals let you reach out during that window instead of at a random time.

## Starting a signal campaign

On the **Signals** page, you pick the signal you want to use. You then choose the data source for that signal, either from Artisan's B2B database or from your own data. From there, you configure the campaign settings.

Two signals work differently from the rest: **Custom AI signal** and **Website visitors**. With **Custom AI signal**, you describe the trigger you want Ava to watch for in plain English, rather than picking a data source. With **Website visitors**, you pick a connected website, then filter the visitors Ava targets.

## Types of signals

In Artisan, there are several types of signals you can choose from, each tracking a different event. Some track hiring, some track funding, and others track buying intent or social activity. Pick the one that matches the moment you want to reach out.

### **Hiring**

Hiring signals watch for new hires at a company.

* **Recently hired**: finds leads at companies that recently made a key hire.
* **First hire in department**: finds leads at companies that just hired their first person in a department.
* **First hire in role**: finds leads at companies that just hired their first person in a specific role.
* **Tech stack in job description**: finds leads at companies whose job postings mention a tool or technology you care about.
* **Actively hiring for role**: finds leads at companies with an open role you want to target.

### **Funding**

Funding signals find leads based on funding and investor activity, whether a company recently raised a new round or is backed by investors you care about.

* **Funding announcement**: finds leads at companies that recently raised a new funding round.
* **Investor portfolio tracking**: finds leads at companies in a named investor's portfolio.
* **Top customers' investors**: finds leads at companies backed by the investors behind your best customers.

### **Other**

These signals watch for buying intent, social activity, and people you already have a relationship with.

* **Topic intent:** finds leads at companies researching topics relevant to your product, powered by Bombora.
* **Champion tracking**: finds your champions and reaches out when they join a new company.
* **Social media post tracking**: finds high-intent prospects posting on social media, so Ava can start warm outreach.
* **Custom AI signal:** finds leads based on any buying trigger you describe in plain English.
* **Website visitors:** finds the companies and people browsing your site, so Ava can reach out while intent is high.
